Kopecky makes grand entrance

On Friday the women also made their entrance on the Ghent track. Lotte Kopecky, Belgian cycling’s leading lady, did it in style.

The reigning European champion dominated the 120-lap points race from start to finish and amassed 90 points. Dutchwoman Marit Raaijmakers took second with 78 points, while Belgian Shari Bossuyt completed the podium by collecting 47 points.

On Saturday the remainder of the women’s programme will be completed, featuring a scratch, elimination race and points race.
